In this generation of social media, self-esteem has been affected to a greater limit. Social media platforms have affected our psychology and mind. Studies tell that 5% of youngsters are addicted to such platforms. Research shows that Instagram is the worst platform for self-esteem which is followed by YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and so on. Between the age group 16 to 24, around 91% of them use their internet as well as time on these platforms. This trend has also caused depression and anxiety among people as cyberbullying is on the rise. In a group of 10 youngsters, almost 7 of them complain about cyberbullying. The highest number of cyberbullying cases is on Facebook.

Poor self esteem has resulted in multiple problems. In terms of statistics, about 20% of youngsters or teenagers are depressed. Among this 20% of unhappy youngsters, only 30% get treatment. The age group of 15 to 24 sees rapid suicide rates due to anxiety and every ten minute a teenager commits suicide. Around 75% of girls with low self-esteem get addicted to smoking, drinking, and even face eating disorders. In current times, at the age of 14, 50% of children face mental disorders which are upsetting.

There are always solutions to every problem. With the above data, it’s clear that self-esteem is a major issue and needs to be solved. It can be treated through a positive attitude. One should support such people and remind them what they are good at. Indeed, encouraging them is not enough. That’s why visiting a therapist is also a good option. Apart from that, eating healthy and working out can also boost a person’s self-esteem.


Self esteem is important for everyone but nowadays many people lack self-esteem. They fail to recognize their worth and are unhappy in some way or the other. This trend is mostly due to social media platforms that promote unfairness. This problem of low self-esteem is specifically more among teenagers or youngsters since they are the ones who utilize social media to the highest extent. The above-mentioned statistics show that they are not satisfied with themselves. This disappointment has given rise to many other issues such as anxiety, depression, and so on. But there are ways to treat and boost self esteem too.
