By identifying which of these factors each of you can control, you can start setting yourself goals and working towards them.
What You Are Doing To Build Your Self Esteem
You first need to look at what you are doing to build your self esteem. Think about what you admire most about yourself and what makes you feel proud. It could be something subtle like the way you organise your house or it could be something more significant – perhaps the way that you can tell a good piece of advice when you’ve just been asked. For some people, however, this task can be daunting; so instead, they just start to appreciate the good things about themselves as often as possible.
Another thing you need to do is to make yourself do just the minimum that you need to do to increase your level of self esteem. This might mean giving yourself small talks, letting yourself know that you look good, dressing well, being confident, listening to your friends and so on. If you can do this for five minutes every day, you will start to realise that your confidence is growing, but at the same time, your self esteem will also be growing.
Treat Everyone The Same
This leads into the third pillar – making sure that you treat everyone the same, no matter how much they have to say to you. You have to remember that when you first started school, nobody knew you – and you had to learn to get along with others in order to be accepted. As you get older, things become more rigid. But the first step to improving your self esteem here is to try and understand yourself as well as others.
If you want to boost your self esteem, you will have to learn to deal with criticism well. Criticism isn’t always necessarily negative – in fact, many of us have been harshly criticized by our parents or peers. In these cases, we may have grown up believing that we cannot handle criticism – that we must keep our head down and our focus straight. However, this is not true. Anyone can learn how to handle criticism, and if you continue to do this, eventually you will become increasingly confident.
Focus On The Positive Qualities
The fourth thing you need to do is to be happy with who you are now. It is very easy to focus on what you wish you could change about yourself – but you are just as likely to wish for someone else to change about you. Focus on the positives, on the good times you have had, and instead of focusing on what you think needs to be changed – focus on the positive qualities you possess now. This is a great way to get into your own comfort zone and feel at ease – it is also a great way to enhance your self-confidence, as well.
You have to believe in yourself first before you can be confident, and this is not always easily done. To start, you have to believe in your own abilities. Try to challenge your ideas by thinking about how you would respond to the same situations in a different way. When you do this enough times, you will start to think differently about things, and when you do this enough, others will start to think differently about you too.
Now, it is important to note that these tips will not work immediately. You will need to keep applying them and be patient. Do not get discouraged if you haven’t seen any improvement after a few days or weeks. Also, they won’t work if you don’t constantly monitor your progress. The only way for this to work is for you to work on yourself at a steady pace. That being said, if you follow these pillars of self-esteem for 7 days, you should notice a significant change in how you feel about yourself.
