The mind is present in all of us. But the mind is always in confusion. Why? Because you can’t decide. To be or not to be! After a lot of ifs and buts, we reach a decision. This decision is taken by your intellect. So when you use your mind spontaneously, it is called the presence of mind. For example, there is a fire in your house. Without panicking, the first thing that you will do is switch off the main supply of electricity so that a short circuit does not take place.
Basic Presence Of Mind
When you use your mind to do the right thing at the right moment in critical time is called the presence of mind.
The mind is a kind of movement and noise whose presence is shown by silence, stillness, and peace. This is the knowledge of movement without being drawn into and lost in mind while retaining the stillness and peace of presence. It is awareness of action and responding to that action from presence.
Presence Of Mind Is A Somewhat A More Elegant Way Of Saying These Things:
- The ability to remain calm and take timely, sensible action (especially in difficulty or emergency).
- Level headedness
- The ‘cool’
For Interest, To Develop This Presence Of Mind, Below Are The Common Advice:
- Be observant.
- Learn the ability to multitask (but not necessarily need to do it all the time).
- Carry less emotional baggage.
- Prioritize your tasks and goals.
- Take a more relaxed outlook on life.
- Know the ways in and out of being ‘the center of attention’.
- Be natural self as much as you can.
- Let go of perfection.
- Practice being “at the moment” — being mindful (conscious or aware) of what is going on here and now (including any thinking we do about the past or future).
You didn’t ask for this much, but being mindful that you’ll eventually have to ask about those things anyway, I’d rather give it to you right now.
Some Last Factors
This refers to a decision that was made or action is taken where the performer had full awareness of the decision and action made. This is in contrast to impulsive decisions that we often make were after doing so we wish we had done something different.
The instant decision of mind can be improved by activities such as meditation, journaling, mind mapping, coaching, and psychotherapy. All of us, no matter how healthy we think we are, should be doing some of these activities regularly.
Presence of Mind is “not letting our mind let go of the past of worries and to think of the future or dreams thus pushing our self to a state where no worries or no fear appears to us accepting all that happens to surround us good or bad.”
If we have the presence of mind (don’t flutter in past or future) automatically it pushes us to react positively for any action that happens to surround us.
